3rd place

After a crazy few days and excitement on my part, Tyler was finally able to compete in the State Hershey Track Meet on Saturday.  He did great, never led during this race which was a first for him, but stayed with the leaders.  He improved his time by 2.75 seconds and took 3rd place out of 8 boys.  I videoed the whole race and when I learn how to download it to a computer, I'll put it on.

The meet was originally scheduled for Herriman High school but a fire started in the canyon the day before the meet in Herriman and people were evacuated to the high school so the meet had to be moved to West Jordan High.  Everything was pushed back an hour to ensure all participants could arrive in the right place.  The entire competition was done in 2 1/2 hours, but announcing winners for the field events took a little longer.

As far as I know only first place winners move on to the national (or next competition).  If it's nationals, the kids get an all expenses paid trip to Hershey Pennsylvania to compete for a national title.  I've heard that kids who do this have gone on to be Olympic athletes and high school and college athletes as well.

I think Tyler did great and I am so proud of him. A little training on his part and he will be amazing in high school.  I expect great things from him.
