Scouts to Young Womens...again
Right as my Christmas break was about to begin, I was called in to speak with the bishop. OF course I had two days to stew about it and wondered what i would be called to. I thought it would be primary and i just didn't want that. When the day arrived to meet with him, it was snowy and I was running late from work and I forgot. I remembered about a half an hour after my appointment and I was only in Santaquinn. The snow was bad. I had Chris call the bishop and tell him what was going on.
I finally arrived, harried and feeling stressed out, only an hour late:). Bishop says I need to release both of you from scouts. We were the cub masters. I almost started to cry. Then he said I was asked to be in the Young Women's Presidency as 1st counselor. I was floored. I really couldn't believe it. I certainly wasn't expecting a change of any kind, at least until the phone call to set up the appointment. (I was the secretary in Young Womens in Scipio until we moved to Nephi, but this group of girls is 3 times the size and I have different responsibilities and the curriculum has changed drastically)
Since that day I have had confirmation that I am supposed to be with the young women. Maybe its for them, maybe its for me. I don't know. I few months ago I went to the temple and has a fleeting thought that everything was going to be OK. I have had my share of worries over my children especially my oldest two. the thought was so quick, that I can't be sure of what would be ok, but as He says, everything will. I get to work with the most amazing women. Friends and women who are strong. If only I can be so.
During the transition time from scouts to young women, they haven't called a new cub master yet (at this time officially, but I do know who they are now). So for the last 3 weeks I have also had cub master duties to complete, a pack night to put on, and getting new leaders registered and trained. I have not felt so stressed out since the beginning of the new school year--but that is another story. Last Thursday I did my last pack night. I got to give out lots of awards and even do an Arrow of Light /graduation ceremony. The awesome primary person who always helps with scout stuff (and my wonderful neighbor across the street) greeted each new scout leader and thanked the former ones. Chris got donuts and I got flowers. I almost cried again. It was a great night.
I never thought I would want to give up scouts, but with the time commitment necessary for Young Women's, family activities (sporting events for every boy in the house), work and some sort of ME time, there isn't enough and I gladly gave my books to the new leaders- who will be sustained next week. I still get to do the scout thing: all my boys are in scouts in some fashion, and I get to attend pack nights with Cameron -just not be in charge.
PS. Does anyone know what it feels like to try to be a good mom, be a good teacher at my school, support my husband and children in their activities, and now try to lead the young women to be strong and secure in their beliefs and standards? And not feeling like its good enough? And there is no time? I don't know what kind of job I will do, but I hope it will be good enough.
