And now onto basketball...

Football ended on Nov 14. Basketball tryouts were Nov 18-19. Tyler made the team. He is one of 6 juniors. I anticipate him playing JV and Varsity. There are 4 teams Freshman, Sophomore, JV, and Varsity teams. He had one day of  rest between football season and basketball season. The first game is Nov 25 at Union High in Roosevelt.

Jeremy started playing basketball just after his football season ended. He's playing on a team that plays in Utah county. Cameron will start city league again in January.

Our Team. Our Town!

JHS Football
After the semi final game against Union--Tyler is #60. This picture in on the district website.
Juab High football accomplished this season something that has only been done two other times. They were able to play in the state championship game.  It was a great day, beautiful weather, and since the game was at 4pm at SUU, school ended at 1130.  The entire student body sent the team off with a great pep assembly. Even the parents of the team came to wish them well. Signs went up around town at EVERY football players home before the first game of playoffs and remained until the day of the state title game.

We got to be the home team (coin toss) against Judge Memorial. I have never seen such an amazing site. The home side of the bleachers was PACKED with Juab High fans.  I truly couldn't believe the amazing support for this team.  Unfortunately the game did not go our way--at all. Judge was bigger, faster, stronger. We lost  63 -14. They had a great fake play, where they would fake a handoff or not and we tackled the wrong guy. They threw once.  We threw many times- because that's our game, and it was dropped or fumbled or other awful things. We'd run and get shut down. It was a pretty sad game to watch.   (reminded me of the BYU vs Savannah State game yesterday)

Goodbye Scooter.. Hello Walking (sort of)

You never know how much you walk and depend on getting places independently until you can't. I've spent the last two months in a cast, not allowed to put weight on my foot. Lets just say it was getting old fast. Today was good news. I can walk..in my walking boot. I shouldn't walk without it.

SO today I walked and walked and walked. The mall, the football game bleachers, . My ankle hurts, my body hurts, and its so slow getting anywhere, but I'm glad to be on two feet again. At some point today I felt like I was forgetting something.  I guess it was my crutches that I don't have to use anymore.

In 3 weeks I get orthotics and go from there. Yippee!!

UPDATE
December 1:
Its been 4 months today since the surgery. I got rid of the scooter on Oct 2. I officially could walk without a boot on Oct 21, the day I got the orthotics. I can walk without a limp, most of the time. I've even tried jogging  for a minute and I move faster that way than trying to walk fast. My foot still swells after a long day. The orthotics seem to help. I think I'm ready to try exercising again, like Zumba then work back into crossfit. I have to think of progress in weeks, not days.  I'm glad I had it done but not looking forward to doing the other one one day.

Football Schedules

All the boys are playing tackle football.  Yes all of them. There have been a few bumpy days with Cameron going to practice (or not going), but today went well. I think they will all be good at it.  Keep watching this post for scores and updates and pictures!

Tyler is playing JV (TY) again this year, and possibly some reps in Varsity. He is a lineman, (left or right tackle, maybe special teams, and ???)  6'3" 206lbs.  size 14 cleat. He may have come home from working at scout camp a little heavier than he would have if he'd worked out all summer

Jeremy  and Cameron (CJ) will play the same days just at different times. That means we get to spend the entire saturday (8am to when they are done) and Wednesday night (4:30p to whenever they are done). Jeremy is playing slot, linebacker, d-end, QB, receiver this year --- size 9 cleat,    pounds, 5'3"
Cameron is playing.. we'll see what positions he does well. --- size 7 cleat,    73 pounds, 5'

Jeremy team record 3 Wins - 4 Losses (B bracket championship)
Cameron team record 6 Wins- 2 Losses (A bracket championship)

On Oct 1 Camerons team had to play a "play in" game to see which bracket they would play in. North Sanpete needed another game because they disagreed with the standings. There were 5 teams with a 6-2 record. We were seated 2nd and slated to play against Beaver in the A bracket. North Sanpete was seated 5th and were to play in the B bracket. We won the game 20-14. It was a much better played game than our last two.  So the standings are correct. We play Beaver in the A bracket.

The PAINS of foot surgery

I did have surgery on August 1. It was done by Dr. Thomas Rogers who is the nicest man. He was very up front before the surgery. He came to talk to to us before the surgery and I think after too.  I happened to be the first one for surgery so that meant leaving our house at 4:30am to be at the AF hospital at 5:30. Cameron really wanted to come with us so he did.  He chose my the color of my cast: hot pink!! I was prepped and ready for surgery by 6:30a and out of surgery by 8:40a  (at least that is the first recollection of time).  By 9:30a the nurses were asking if I was ready to leave.  The only draw back to the day was feeling pushed out the door by the recovery nurses.  I didn't leave until around 10:30 and we were home by 12:30p after a few stops for food, medicine, and my scooter.

I had a fusion of the second metatarsal to the 2nd cuneiform on my right foot. I have a plate, a few screws and some wire in my foot. I can't put any weight on my foot for six weeks, (2 down 4 to go). I get to roll around on a knee scooter.  I also have crutches. sometimes those are better for getting around, especially in small places.

School is fun. My classroom is on the second floor so I get an elevator key. In the five years I have worked there, I think I've been in it twice before this week. Now its at least once up and once down. It stinks, too.

I can't believe I agreed to this.

crutches work too

 Aug 30.
Went in for pain in my calf today. Started a few days ago. Guess I'm glad I did. After the dr cut off the cast and I had an unltrasound on my entire right leg, I found out I have a blood clot.  I get to take zorelto for a while. The upside is that my pink cast is gone and I have a boot on. Still can't walk though. My foot looks awful. I have a wire sticking out of my foot. My incision is bigger than I thought too. My foot aches after it's release from bondage. The boot feels weird , heavier too. It was an adventure today to say the least. 4hours at the hospital and almost 1 more at the pharmacy. The medication is ridiculously expensive $215 and  they tried to make it less. I got a special card to help and now it's affordable$5.
ER/Clinic pain in my leg + ultrasound on my veins = blood clot

just after they cut off cast, Yes that's a wire sticking out of my foot.

got a boot, but cannot walk on it. Must take blood thinners for a while too.

hairy legs and swollen feet

Day I got the cast off

my favorite key--the elevator at the school
The good things:

  1. The pain is barely there, its more a swelling problem than a pain problem. Prayers were answered!!!
  2. My boys and Chris are very helpful. They bring me stuff or sometimes ask if I need help.
  3. Tyler is a good driver. he drove us to Walmart last Saturday and did a fantastic job. He is my designated chauffeur when Chris isn't around.
  4. I have awesome neighbors. They have checked in and we got dinners from them as well
  5. My left leg is getting stronger.
  6. My coworkers are amazing. They always offer to help.

The frustrating things:

  1.  I can't get in and out of the car if I have the scooter because I can't put it in and then get in by myself.
  2. I can't get in and out of the house if I have the scooter because I can't move it down the 3 stairs.
  3. I hate be dependent on people to do anything.
  4. I can't drive -- well I shouldn't. It is my right foot after all. I have driven to school and back (a mile either way and its very uncomfortable tucking my leg and using my left foot).
  5. Its a production to go anywhere, both in the house and outside the house.
  6. Bathing is obnoxious. I like to shower. I can't wait to soak my right leg in the tub.

Here's hoping students will be nice to me and I will be patient with them.
Here's hoping my foot heals and fuses like its supposed to.
