Evans Family News
2013
This year started out with a bang.
Jennifer turned 40 so to celebrate we all went to Disneyland. We had a lot of
fun. Cars land is so cool. That is what
Jennifer really wanted to go to. Even after a year of being open, the lines are
still atrocious, though.
Sports are still an integral part of
our lives. Basketball, football, track, and soccer games rule our schedules.
Some weeks we attend 4-6 events. Each boy is doing well in sports and school.
Cameron (5th grade, 10
years old) was playing quarterback on his flag football team. He just started
playing on his city basketball team. He also can shoot 3 point shots. He’s
turning into a mini Chris. He still loves to read and play and draw. I think he would be a great piano player or
singer, but no lessons for him. Cameron wanted to hike Timpanogas Cave this
summer, so mom and dad took him. The rest of the boys had ball practice. He’s a
Webelos scout.
Jeremy (7th grade, 13
years old) is quite a football player, gaining yards and moving the ball . His
team did slightly better than last year winning 4 games instead of 3. He’s also
a great basketball player. Just the other day he shot a buzzer beater behind
the 3 pint line bank shot. It didn’t win the game for them, but it was cool. He
started junior high this year. One of the perks of Juab Jr. is that every
incoming 7th grader got an iPad mini. It’s been interesting to see
how they are using it in school. He definitely plays games on it after school.
He just turned 13 too. He’s almost as tall as his mom. Jeremy is a first class
scout still.
Tyler (10th grade, 15
years old) is one of the tallest boys on the basketball team at 6’3”. He is
filling out and growing even taller. He needed new shoes again this year…size
14. We had quite a time finding track
shoes for Tyler. They just don’t stock big shoes. He got his learners permit
for driving right before school started. He drives us to school every day, but
he’s never home to drive anywhere else. Tyler ran track this year and did well.
He ran 800m, and mile. He qualified to run the mile at region. Tyler is just
one merit badge away from earning his Eagle. He completed his project in July.
I guess he will follow in Derek’s footsteps and get it just before he turns 16
after a year of waiting to do paperwork.
The JHS football team did really well this year. Tyler’s JV team lost only two games, and the varsity
team made it to the semifinals for the first time in years. Tyler shot and killed his first deer this
year. It was a nice 2 point. We now have lots of deer meat to eat. (which isn’t
gross like the last one we had—when Derek was a baby) `
Tyler and Derek played soccer this
spring. It was fun to see them enjoy it. Derek even got certified to be a
referee this fall so he could work at college. Juab High will have its first
ever boys soccer team in 2014. Tyler
really wants to play as well as run track, so I guess we’ll see how that goes.
Derek turned 18 and graduated from
high school this year as well. He is now attending ...can you guess?...the
University of Utah and loving every minute of it. He loves his classes, his
roommate (most of the time), and the new friends he is making. Maybe one day we
will meet some of them. He also had to have shoulder surgery this summer as
well. He dislocated his shoulder for the second time in 11months, this time
playing basketball. No sports for him for the rest of the year. January he is cleared to play all the sports
he wants to.
Jennifer, Jeremy, and Cameron all
went on a road trip to San Francisco in April. A friend from IHS has a house on
the beach in Aptos on Monterey Bay. She
invited us along with a few others to come.
We had lots of fun. It was cold, but beach combing was fun, and we took
a day to visit San Francisco and ride the trolley cars, saw the seals on the
pier, walked down the crookedest street in America. Alcatraz was all booked up,
though so that will have to be part of the next trip. They want to go back
again, so do I.
Chris and Jennifer celebrated 20
years of marriage this year as well. In a world where marriage and family are
losing importance, it’s awesome to see we are still together after all this
time. We aren’t perfect, but we keep
trying…together.
One new unexpected event of the year
is that Jennifer has a new job, back at Juab High School. Let’s just say it was a long story, but after
speaking to a few individuals, I got an
interview, and a job offer the end of
June. I’m irreplaceable at Independence as they never filled my position with a
contract teacher, just long term substitutes. I miss my friends and some of the
kids, but I don’t miss driving so much. I can’t believe how much free time I
have (ha, not really but it feels like it).
Jennifer is serving in Young Women’s
again, this time as first counselor. She changed jobs right at the end of the
year last year. She works mostly with the 14-15 year old girls in our church.
They are amazing girls. It is a lot of fun to work with girls again. I still
feel out of my element sometimes, but they keep me grounded.
Chris was just called to work with
the 14-18 year old boys in scouting. He now attends mutual as well. He is still
trying to be young playing basketball a few nights a week. He wakes up sore the
next day though. He still works at Yuba Lake, year 14 I think. He actually got
to help in a drug bust last week. An officer had pulled someone over and Chris
was the first responder. He helped find the drugs in the bumper of the vehicle
and get them to jail.
Jennifer gets her thrills from reading and watching her
boys play ball. She gets to be home more now that she works in Nephi. She
misses her oldest son and worries about all of them constantly.
Wishing you the best year ever. 2014
should be even better than this year.
Merry Christmas
LOVE,
Chris, Jennifer,
Derek, Tyler,
Jeremy Cameron
